Environment Day: Fast Fashion

World Environment Day, held annually on 5 June, brings attention on the pressing issue that is global warming. This year, the Alliance Française will approach the issue of Fast Fashion, one of the world's largest polluters.

We will explore the subject with the French documentary, Fast Fashion: the real price of low cost fashion, followed by a talk with experts in sustainable clothing:
- Prof. Angelina Russo, practising designer and owner of the artisanal enterprise Fleurieu Made.
- Amanda Blair, founder of Dulcie's vintage bus and shops, established to reduce fabric waste in landfill and support people experiencing homelessness.
- Josephine McKenzie, phd candidate researching on the role of corporate social responsibility in the Australian fashion industry.

When: Wednesday 5 June, 6:30pm to 9pm
Where: Alliance Française, 319 Young Street, Wayville
Tickets: $15 members, $20 non-members

About the screening: this 2021 documentary is a haunting investigation of the alarmingly dangerous realities of the fast fashion industry. As the title suggests, directors Gilles Bovon (French director, screenwriter and chief editor) and Édouard Perrin (French investigative reporter) seek to provide the viewer with both the origin story of the fast fashion industry and the quickly compounding factors as we continue to purchase it, condensing the history, dangers, and implications of fast fashion.
